Company History
Majestic Eagle Agency, Inc. has evolved through a series of mergers and
acquisitions. The major historical events are as
follows:
GLENN SCOTT INSURANCE.
On June 14, 1949 Glenn H. Scott
started in the insurance business primarily focusing on sales of Life
Insurance. He eventually expanded into property and casualty in the late
50’s. In 1971 he purchased the landmark “Log Cabin” building on N.E. 122nd
in Portland, Oregon. In August 1973 Glenn D. Scott joined his father in
the business. Glenn is a graduate of Northwest Nazarene College and earned
a BA in Business Administration in 1967. He later earned a Masters of
Science in Management degree from Marylhurst University, graduating number one
in the class. Glenn H. Scott retired December 31, 1979 and sold the agency
to Glenn D. Scott. Glenn earned the CIC designation in 1985 and the CPIA
designation in 1988.
MERT ALLEN INSURANCE AGENCY.
In 1974 F. Merton Allen asked us to purchase his
small book of American States personal lines business. He wanted to focus
his energies on the real estate and travel agency business. He continues
to be a long time customer for both his business and personal insurance
today.
CENTRAL EAST AGENCY.
In 1979 we purchased this long time East County
agency from Ruth Cushman. Her husband, George, died in an aircraft
accident a few years prior. This agency was mostly non standard
auto. It was at this time Glenn's wife, Diane, joined us to assist with
filing and later agency accounting.
KEY BANK OF OREGON.
In 1989 one of Glenn’s clients, a Vice President
at Key Bank of Oregon, had employed Glenn as a consultant relating to automating
their newly formed insurance agency. Glenn worked with them on automation
issues until they purchased his agency on October 9, 1991. At that time
Glenn was hired as the State Insurance Manager for Key Bank of Oregon Insurance
Services.
BENJ. FRANKLIN AGENCY MERGER.
Key Bank purchased the
insurance agency of Benj. Franklin Financial Services on July 1, 1991.
Benj. Franklin had operated an insurance service department since 1955
(originally called Fir Tree Insurance) writing primarily Personal Lines on
mortgage loan customers. All of the business and half of the employees
were merged into Key Bank Insurance.
BOYD & CO. AGENCY.
Key Bank purchased this agency on July 15,
1991. The agency was started in 1965 by Ted Boyd. Ted later expanded
into the travel agency business and sold the agency to his Nephew, Blaine Hoggard, approximately 1985. The agency specialized in Commercial Lines
but did some Personal Lines, Life and Health.
MAJESTIC EAGLE AGENCY, INC.
KeyCorp went
through several mergers, the last of which was with Society Bank in 1993.
Senior management made the decision to exit the insurance business and
subsequently sold the entire Key Bank of Oregon Insurance Services department to
Glenn D. Scott on January 1, 1995. At that time Glenn reactivated a
previous dormant corporation and renamed it Eagle Insurance Management,
Inc. In the process of obtaining Federal Trademark registrations it was
decided to modify the name to Majestic Eagle Agency, Inc. In December 1996, William
E. “Bill” Wilson became a partner through a purchase agreement with Majestic
Eagle Agency, Inc.
ALLEN INSURANCE SERVICES.
In February of 1995 a
long time friend, Bruce Allen, sold his Life and Health insurance agency to
Majestic Eagle Agency, Inc. Bruce has been ill and subsequently passed
away summer of 1996. One employee came to our agency with that
transaction.
ALLAN E RICHARD.
January 1, 1997 Allan Richard joined
our agency bringing his book of business and two employees. Al was one of
the founding partners of the Bieker, Richard, & Ross agency in 1969.
They initially began as Rockwood Insurance and later changed their name.
Allan retired on December 1, 1999
GUIDEONE&ACORDIA NW.
January 1, 2003 GuideOne closed their Portland Oregon
regional office and transferred their orphaned accounts to our office.
Their regional sales manager, Jay Harding, joined our office as an Account
Executive. Transferred business included Commercial Lines $40,458 and
Personal Lines $202,158 premiums. February 1, 2003 we purchased $16,986 of
premium from Acordia NW which was all Church packages.
PURCHASE OF AGENCY.
On December 31,
2005, Glenn D. Scott retired and sold the agency to his partner William E.
“Bill” Wilson.
Majestic Eagle Agency is a multi lines agency with approximately
$12,300,000 combined premium volume. Of this, Personal Lines is 39%,
Commercial Lines 38%, Life and Health Insurance 23%. We specialize in
total account management for business and personal clients. We write
specialty auto only on an exception basis for existing clients with short term
improving situations.
